The Viscounty of the March

The Viscounty of the March
Capital: Gorsend
Population: 135,000
Religions: Rao, Beory, Cuthbert,
Symbol: A Unicorn
Military Forces: Two regiments of peasant levies, four companies of elite heavy cavalry, some light catapults. The Knights of the March are the best-known horsemen in the kingdom. Their charge is a source of legend.
Ruler: Viscount Luther Derwent is a highly religious man, paying homage to a variety of gods. He is a big proponent of chastity, claiming himself a virgin. He’s 28, tall, attractive, and clean-shaven. He disappears from public view for days at a time for fasting and prayer.
Traditionally, the heir apparent has ridden a unicorn. Luther’s had adopted his nephew Martin as his heir. Martin is only 9 and he has yet to acquire a unicorn. In truth, no heirs have managed to find a unicorn in the past hundred years, and nobody expects him to.

The Fief: Wheat makes the fief wealthy. Its most popular crop is a hardy breed, able to survive harsh winters and blistering summers. The March’s farmers are likewise tough, used to fending off orcish and goblin raids behind thick cobblestone walls. Every farmstead has a number of dogs to warn against intruders and fight off smaller predators.
